Makka Hotel is located in a quiet alley, conveniently in the center of Chiang Mai Old Town. If you look on Google Maps streetview, the alley looks a bit questionable, but actually once you are there it is rather nice, and a good cut through between two busier streets. You will even find a couple of good restaurants immediately on the alley (one right across from the hotel), a barber shop, a couple other hotels, etc., so while it is quiet, it is far from lifeless. The hotel itself has the likeness and serenity of a pristine temple. You must even remove your shoes to enter, and then contend with the slick and flawlessly polished floors. The staff could not be more helpful or gracious. They helped us with our bags (in more ways than one, since our luggage was initially delayed by the airline), and also booked a private driver to take us to the mountain temples. The breakfast area and surrounding grounds are beautiful. They take your breakfast order each morning and bring it to you accompanied by fresh fruit, bread, and drinks. There is also a "secret" breakfast menu with smaller items, like yogurt, if you don't want something too heavy. There is a library, which is stunning, though I must admit I did not use it other than to marvel at its beauty. The room itself was large and very clean. I can be quite fussy about the latter, but it met my standards. The bed was comfortable. The fridge is stocked with complimentary drinks. The A/C works very well. I was deliberate about booking a room with no balcony, to avoid bugs getting in, though I will say Chiang Mai was one of the least "buggy" places we visited on this trip to Southeast Asia.

The Makka hotel is probably the best hotel in its class (or any other class) that I have ever stayed in. The hotel itself is beautiful, and the rooms, hall-ways, common areas, and dining area are all first class and incredibly beautiful, quiet, and relaxing. The breakfast was wonderful, and the staff was amazingly helpful, cheerful, and accommodating. The hotel is located in the center of the old walled-town, within walking distance of everything. The room itself was very spacious, bright, cool (with AC), and visually airy. The bed was extremely comfortable, and all the bathroom facilities were excellent. WiFi was strong and the room had a large-screen TV (which we did not use), a bowl of fruit, and bottled water that was provided daily. I am a fairly critical customer and usually find things to complain about, but cannot find anything to criticize with the Makka hotel. Given the extremely high quality of the hotel and the services it provides, it is an outstanding value for the rather low level of its rental fees.

The stay was overall very pleasant. There was a construction next to the hotel and our room was noisy, but we were quickly moved to a quiet suite. The room was very large and comfortable. Breakfast was good, although it was served in an open area, which was pretty chilly in the winter mornings. The whole site is beautiful though, especially the library on top of the breakfast area, with comfortable sitting and a great breeze when it gets warmer. Staff was excellent, friendly and efficient -the night attendant even run to a store and surprised me with earplugs.

What a great spot for our first time in Chiang Mai. Being an older couple we didn't want party life but wanted walking streets. This was perfect, massage and laundry right alongside. The hotel is so beautiful in the traditional Thai style, even though our room was pretty small everything else made up for it. Staff were extraordinarily friendly and seemed to genuinely care for the customer. Breakfast was delicious every day (we stayed one week) ambience and zen like feel to hotel made us not want to leave. Highly highly recommend.

The property has a very nice style - local architecture but with a very clear philosophy, I liked the writings on the walls in the corridor and in the rooms. Initially, I wasn’t aware that they also have a library - it’s an absolutely beautiful space and very peaceful and magic in the late afternoon and evening, don’t miss it! There is a very friendly cat often hanging out in and around the library if you have a sweet spot for pets like I do. Also, the location is superb for exploring Chiang Mai city center and its attractions.
